About Us

Our group, Kansas Rights 4 Kids, has been working with Senator Rob Olson on creating a bill that would put a variety of restrictions & regulations on child sex offenders.  We began our journey this summer when a convicted child sex offender moved into our neighborhood, 208 feet from our school in Olathe, KS.  KR4K has grown to include people from all over Kansas.

In May 2010, we were shocked to discover that it was NOT againist the law for a convicted child sex offender to live next to a school.  We began calling law enforcement, city officials, and other political people only to discover again and again that these convicted offenders can live any where they want. We began writing letters, making phone calls and testifying before committees, we did what we could to get people to listen.  Several Olathe and Kansas officials listened, including House Representative Rob Olson. Rob Olson began to work on a bill with us, now as a senator, Rob Olson is sponsoring the bill.  In January 2011 the bill (SB39) was filed in the Senate.  In Feb 2011 we will testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee chaired by Senator Tim Owens.

Senate Bill 39 in short is creating the classification of "aggravated sex offender;" creating additional penalties and restrictions for sex offenders.

KR4K's mission and goals:

Our mission is to protect all Kansas children from convicted child sex offenders by limiting the access they have to our children.
Our goal is to change the current lack in the Kansas law in regards to where child sex offenders can live in Kansas.
Our goal is to enact community notification protocols so that parents will be notified by local law enforcement officials when a child sex offender moves into the neighborhood.
